Ana Macara
was selected to receive the 2004 Ethel Martus Lawther Alumni Award
Fulbrighter Ana Macara was selected by a committee of faculty and alumni of the School of Health and Human Performance of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to receive the 2004 Ethel Martus Lawther Alumni Award.
This award is intended to distinguish former students of the School that have made a significant contribution, through scholarship, leadership or service, in career and/or civic involvement.
Professor Ana Macara was a Fulbright grantee at University of North Carolina,Greensboro, where she completed her MA in Dance in 1989. She earned her PhD in 1994 from the Technical University of Lisbon, were she currently teaches at the Dance Department of the School of Human Motricity.
She was nominated to this award by Prof. Jan Van Dyke, one of the several American Fulbright Scholars that she hosted at her department over the last years. At the Alumni Awards Ceremony, last November 4, Prof. Jan Van Dyke referred that "Over the course of her career as artist, scholar and organizer, Ana has almost single-handedly succeeded in bringing Portugal into the international academic dance community".
